lastnight i was feeding my snakes and i threw pinkies in deli cups and placed them all around the room until i could put the snakes in. when i turned around i heard a "splash" and saw that a deli cup with a pinky fell into the tank with my snapping turtle. as i fished the container out i looked around for a net or something to get the pinky out. the only thing i could find was paper towels to at least dry my hands off with after i went fishing with my hands. so i put my hands in and looked and there was no pinky just my turtle looking happy. i wasnt going to use the pinky for a snake after it fell in the water...i was just going to throw it away... but she ate it before i could even look at it a 2nd time. should i worry? obviously i'm not going to do this on purpose. i'm sure in the wild they eat all kinds of weird things. but should i really worry about her?

about your snapper eating a pinkie mouse/rat? my ally snapper eats mostly just thawed out rodents and fish. try to give it a varied diet, but rodents are fine.

I thought you were going to say that the turtle ate the cup! I'm sure he loved the pinkie. You don't have to worry but the waste you find afterwards will be a little different!

Sissy turtles again? I mean a mouse pinkie's claws havn't even started to grow in yet and it has no teeth, and no real bones to speak of so that shouldn't be a problem. I would suggest that you talk to Phantoms to help with your anxiety. He has already admitted that he was probably the sissy and not his turtle. Snapper's around the country are already feared and misunderstood and in some cases re-viled by ignorant people the same way that some people feel about snakes. So let's not give these people any ammunition that they can use against snapper's. And the lable of SISSY TURTLES would be very dishearting to us all. All snappers are hatched with the skills to whip a mouse pinkie and let us not forget that fact. Jack

Alas, I don't have any snapping turtles at the present time as I happen to live in a state where they are illegal to possess. I used to live in Florida and I did have them there. When I moved here I left them with my sister who is still in Florida. I now have just three toed box turtles and red eared slider's. If I ever move elsewhere I am sure I will either get back my turtles or get some new ones. Jack

I live in the State of California.

yeah, that sucks. i have inquired in the past to a friend that knows a lot of state laws about the possibility of taking my snapper to cali if i move there. he said no way.

ok great thanks! she was a rescue and i kind of baby her. she has no snout just a hole. i didnt want to get her sick if at al possible!!
