She wont eat! Can she eat EGGS?!

corwinsfattail Feb 26, 2007 09:26 AM

I have a fat tail aprox 2 years old. When I first got her, this forum helped me out a lot so I'm hoping someone might have some advice! Shes been doing great until about 2 weeks ago she was sneezing and not shedding well. The vet diagnosed her with an upper respiratory infection, and shes been on antibiotics. Sneezing stopped! (yay!) but she still wont eat! I'm not sure if this is because she shed again a couple of days ago (and much better than last time) or because she still doesnt feel well. No impaction in the stomach. Habitat is the same. The vet also suggested varying her diet, not just gut loaded crickets. We looked up some options in his book, and found a suggestion for EGGS?! Can I feed her a hard boiled egg? I have never heard of this before so I wanted to get some opinions. Any suggestions?! thanks!

If anything, maybe gutload the crickets with the egg. It's been my exsperience adult Fattails prefer food that is very active. Mine once they hit about 50gm for some reason stop eating mealworms & only want crickets. So I'd think she might turn her nose up at eggs on there own.
I haven't heard of geckos eating eggs, but they would be a sorce of protien. I've heard of eggs being used for Tegus, Monitors, & in small amounts for Bearded Dragons & Iguanas.
She probably is still fealing a little under the weather or the antibiotics could be causing her lack of appitite. You can try offering her a few wax worms to try & get her appitite going again or a small pinky mouse, but don't let either of thoughs become a large part of there diet.

I had some trouble getting one of my fatties to eat a little whie ack. What finally worked for me was blending up some worms and crickets with some herp vitamins and then feeding it to him from a dropper. I only had to do it once and he ate on his own again. Some people say that this just gives them the taste for 'meat' again and can be enough to get their appetite going again.
