Destiny laid more eggs

PHRatz Feb 27, 2007 11:39 AM

She laid another clutch on of 19 Feb. 3, then she laid 27 more eggs on Feb. 25th.
That's a total of 92 eggs since the first clutch in Oct.
Oy.. I know I said I didn't want to break eggs and my vet still has clutch #2 in her incubator but WOW!
I hated to do it but I had to dispose of the eggs because I can't be responsible for that many lives IF those eggs were even fertile. Plus we didn't have her bred on purpose, never wanted it to happen so ....

I didn't want to break them so I didn't. I dug them up & set them on my backlot so that some poor hungry wild animal or 2 could have a meal. I could not believe how quickly they vanished!
Somebody got a full belly.. so at least they weren't completely wasted eggs.

Wow, I wonder if she will lay more clutches? Setting them out for other animals to eat is a good idea! How is clutch #2 doing so far in the incubator?

Last I heard 4 had collapsed & now I'll have to go look at what I wrote down, because I can't remember how many the vet had to start with. I'll look in a bit & let you know lol.

I felt a lot better about feeding a wild animal with them rather than just busting them up.
Busting them up feels like such a waste but if something else can get a meal then I don't feel so bad about disposing of them.

One book I read says they can lay 6 clutches in a year.. another book said 8 oy!!!

The vet took 16 & 4 have collapsed so that's a dozen eggs she's brewing...for now anyway...

Something i cant quite wrap my head arround, is why in the heck are you destroying the eggs of a semi-threatend species?
