Just got a PacMan, lots of ?s

bobbieszoo Mar 06, 2007 11:49 AM

YooWho! I am finally the proud mama of a little albino PacMan. I LOVE frogs and have had a number of African Clawed frogs for about 12 years and a couple of African Dwarf frogs for a few years. Have always wanted a PacMan and a Pixie! Was cruizin' Craiglist on Sunday and found a PacMan needing a new home (they wanted something more active). He's a tiny little "guy", about the size of a quarter. I think he may be a little thin, but not sure. I got his some wax worms, which he ate two of last night. Put some crickets in there, but unfortunatly, I think I may have gotten too small of ones. I got the "pinheads", because the others looked so HUGE.
When will he begin to eat pinkies and such? Is there anything else I can try to feed him now? Do most of you feed frozen mice? I know the basics of care, but want to provide Caine w/more than the basics, all my critters are super spoiled around here! I will get an UTH and humidity gauge tomorrow (our house is fairly warm, but I know he needs a warmer spot...can't believe how much they have gone up in price since when I had reptiles).
What else do I need to know? Can't believe how cute he is!!

A bit more info for you, in case you have any other thoughts...
He's in a 10 gallon w/peat and mosst, little water bowl, screen top.

Do I need lighting, and if so, what do you use?
How often should I do a complete peat/moss change?
Should I cover part of the screen top to keep humidity in?

Oh, and about dusting the crickets, what should I get and how often do I dust? When I had reptiles, I used both a vitamin mix and a calicum dust and am only hearing about calcium dust here, so want to be sure. I have a little critter keeper for the crickets where I feed them fish food for at least a day before I give them to Caine, what them to have something in them before my boy eats them!

a cage top is very usefull it helps alot for trapping heat. peatmoss is good but because the baby is still small sometimes the moss is accidentally swallowed and causes impaction which results in death.wait till the frog is a juvenile. a Iight is not needed but if you dont have any source of heat you might want to use a low watt heating one or use a UTH. a regular calcium supplement for reptiles is fine i personally use jurrassi cal.

i wouldnt use moss due to impacting the frog, these guys swallow whatever is in thier mouth. dusting i use rep cal and herp vit, i also use that with my dart frogs its proven formula has been good for many years. they dont need light, both my pacman frog tank dont have lights, just glas lids to keep humidity in. as far as cricket size i would feed that frod small crickets not pin heads. punky mice can be fed when you can tell he can swallow it. i feed mine live fuzzies right now, because the make i have wont eat from tongs. remember mice are evil, do not feel bad about feeding them baby mice lol good luck

lol.well i have a numerous amount of pacmans and just also bought a new little albino baby, hes very small and very active, he will chase the crickets...you should start feeding them pinkies when the the length of his mouth is bigger than the pinkie, i'd also advise you to MAKE SURE TO DUST THE INSECTS WITH CALCIUM POWDER. this is a key factor in the frogs life if you want it to be healthy, happy and grow very big. make sure to keep the temps warm and try not to disturb the frog alot or handle it, try to keep the temps in the tank the same at all times, when its too cold the frog will go into a period od evistation, the frog will hibernate and not eat, try not to disturb it and raise his temps higher to get him out of hibernation.
