Questions about hatchling Sulcatas.

CasualKarma Mar 08, 2007 05:23 PM

I'm looking at going to a reptile expo this weekend and hopefully picking up a hatchling sulcata but I have a few questions first. I've visited a couple of websites but they all seem to say different things so I figured I would ask here.

What should the temp of the tank be? Ambient and basking.

I know they need some humidity, but what percent?

Since it's a hatchling what should I feed it, and what type of substrate should I use?

Thanks in advance.

Basking temps 85-90F. If they go too high you risk dehydration/bladder stones. Some say 95F for basking but my little guy has been extremely active with the lower heat. My five year old was basking under 94F and he had gritty urates. I had to lower the temp to 85-87F to control them. 72-75F on the cool side. If you use 50% coconut coir/50% playsand and keep it moist not wet it will help with humidity. I have over half the table with this and a smaller section with hay for grazing. I live in New York and have humidity issues so I also use a humidifier near the table.

Hope this helps Julia
