hello. i've had a male sudan plated lizard for 6 years now. I live in NYC, a neighbor of mine used to rehab reptiles and find homes for them (recently stopped because he had a baby). He found the lizard at a nearby park and when he was healthy again, gave him to me. So i'm just wondering what the age expectancy is? Is their any way to tell how old plated lizards are? I'm not sure if he was an adult when i got him or not. The rehabber says he looks bigger, but who knows.

I've heard that they are supposed to live to around 15 years, but I've also heard that many people's plateds outlive that by far. It might be a little farfetched, but I think they can get to about 20 years old if you take care of them really well.
As for how old they are when we buy them, it is anybody's guess. I wish more people would captive breed plated lizards!
