im currently feeding timothy hay with a little carrot and collard greens mixed in, and i also sprinkle calcium carbonate over the food along with a general multi vitamin. should i change anything here or does this sound pretty good, im obviously new to sulcatas.

Diet is not bad but watch that carrot. You also want to provide a variety. 75% of the diet should be timothy, orchard, bermuda hay and grasses. Mix in the greens (chickory, endive, dandelion, etc...) every other day. Collards are good once in awhile. Let them graze on the hay or grass on the other day. Best thing is to let them graze outside when the weather is better. I let mine graze most of the day outside and don't mix in store bought greens until the winter (when I have to). Good site for diet information is www.africantortoise.com

Ditto to what Julia said.
Also check out the sulcata station, I like that site too.

Be careful not to over suppliment the vitamins, a light dusting twice a week will do the job. The calcium can be given daily, but just a light dusting. Calcium is great for a growing tort but too much can have detrimental effects.

I forgot, join a yahoo tortoise group and you will learn lots of great information. Two of the best groups are african tortoise and tortoise trust. You can look back through their archives for all sorts of info.
