He Dug A Hole - Now He's Hiding

bulletz Mar 19, 2007 10:53 PM

I'm a newbie. I have a green tree frog had for about two weeks. I have him in an Exo-terra 30x30x45 terrarium with a coconut fiber substrate. However, since yesterday, the GTF has dug himself a hole in the coconut fiber and won’t come out. Since I've had him, has been in the absolute top of the terrarium. Now all of a sudden has buried in a hole. Has anyone seen this before?

Regards,

BRAD

You need to post a bit more information about his enclosure. Does he have hiding spots? (high up and down below), what are the temp and humidity? (any of these things being off can cause a frog to burrow)Does he have a water dish? Things like that really help.

I agree with Daystorm, most issues are husbandry, mainly due to temps and humidity. What are yours? Day and night?

Also what type of water source do you have? They need to be able to soak. Also the water in the bowl and misting need to be treated with a chlorine remover like Aquatize or Reptisafe.

If he's burrowing, it is likely that he either needs more humdidity or it's too hot and drying. Only one side should have a heat lamp so that they have the option of moving out of the heat and there need to be lots of places to hide, plants, caves etc.

Also make sure you are watching the temps and humidity both BEFORE and after mistings. Just because you can get it up to 60% humidity after a misting, doesn't mean it should ever get below it before you mist. It needs to stay consistant. This may require covering part of the screened area.

maybe he needed a change of scenery. Just kidding maybe he needs more moisture. Do you spray him every now and then?
