Need Some Help...

WK Mar 20, 2007 04:46 PM

Is anyone here familiar with keeping dusky salamanders (Desmongnathus)? I have an adult male I need to maintain for a few weeks before releasing it again. It is going to be used in an educational program for kids. I've kept several species of ambystomatids over the years with little difficulty but never this genus. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
WK

Desmognathus fuscus ssp or Desmognathus ochropheus complex?

It is Desmognathus auriculatus. I set it up in a plastic box, gravel substrate, one aquatic side and the other terrestrial with a piece of bark for cover. It is taking cultured redworms so I think it will be OK until I release it in a few weeks.

husbandry should be the same as D. monticola (if you choose to keep it longer)
