Keeping breeding pyros together

patd Mar 23, 2007 10:54 AM

I have a pair of 02 Arizona Mountain Kings I am going to attempt to breed this year. I took them out of a three month brumation March 1st and may have to go out of town in April for a week. If they shed shortly before I leave I am concerned I will miss the prime breeding period of right after they shed. I currently house them separately, would I be better off to put them together while I am gone? Is there a chance the male would kill the female? The male is about 36 inches, the female 31.

There is some risk but I think it's pretty small with pyros. I kept my breeding pair together through all last years breeding season and only separated them to feed and digest for a couple days at a time. I got 3 good eggs which all hatched.
