T. corticale photos

flamedcrestie Mar 25, 2007 11:49 AM

Well, we were ' suckered' into trying out some T. corticale by Mike Feit. When I say 'suckered', I mean I wanted to try them out ( but didn't really want to get any frogs), but they just seem soooo cool that we had to pick some up. We haven't kept any frogs in about 4 years, and we were told these little ( about 2 months out of the water) frogs are quite hardy, and just gorgeous. Here are a couple of photos we've taken over the past couple of days.
Here's one Sarah snapped yesterday

and then here's one I snapped last night

I believe Mike's last words about them were, " Just wait until they get big, they'll make you want to crap your pants!"
Enjoy

Fantastic professional pictures.
I am very jealous, I have an entire setup for them but I am having trouble aquiring them up here in Boston.
Got pictures of their tank?

Sure, just snapped these yesterday morning. I'm keeping it very basic at the moment. It's about equivalent to a 10 gallon aquarium. Just filled partially with rinsed pea gravel, several inches of water, some pothos plants, and a few small twigs. They spend most of their time on the sides of the cage anyways.

Mike Feit's website is www.grandscalegeckos.com
He won't have any available for 2-3 months, but you may consider contacting him when you're looking. They same in superb condition.

Are those little guys tree frogs? (I'm asking because if they are the setup isn't quite right...)

Nah not really tree frog like, more like red bellied toads....

flamedcrestie Mar 27, 2007 12:29 AM

well, technically they're more aquatic than most tree frogs, but have the same climbing abilities as tree frogs. They spend a similar amount of in the water, and out of the water. When looking at them, and their behavior, they remind me more of tree frog, but their habitat in the wild does not really put them in trees.
my set up is more than adequate for the two at the size that they are. The cage will be increased in size as the frogs grow, and I acquire more.
Every species of frog/treefrog may have different requirements. I'm following what was suggested to me by the breeder. Unless you have first hand experience with T. corticale, what is the point in giving me possible pointers. If I had said they were tree frogs, what advice would you have given me?
I don't mean to sound rude, I just don't like when things are suggested without having a good reason for it.
Here's a link to give you a bit more background information.

Excuse me? What right do you have to be talking to anybody like that? I would have simply said "thanks for the pointer, but these guys require different care then regular tree frogs"

No need to be rude. I was after all, only asking a question eh?

First, I should say that my previous post is actually about 95% informational.
to me, your first response of,
"Are those little guys tree frogs? (I'm asking because if they are the setup isn't quite right...)"
is almost assuming I don't know what I'm doing.
While I realize these forums are filled with people coming here looking for information, and/or have their animals set up completely wrong, that is not the case with me in this thread. If you have a suggestion to me about what I should be doing differently, please go ahead and tell me ( or atleast know the specific care requirements of the species in question).

In all honesty, I have every 'right' to say what I said. This is a public forum and I was questioned about my husbandry practices possibly being incorrect, so I tried to explain why I felt they were not incorrect. I appreciate your suggestion as to what I could have said as a more appropriate response, but have you thought that I could also make suggestions to you about yours? ( in your first post). That is what my response to your first post was, information, and a suggestion to not get into threads if you don't have experience with the animal, or to question someone elses practices.
asking me " Are those little guys tree frogs?" is perfectly acceptable, but when you add "(I'm asking because if they are the setup isn't quite right)" to the end of it you should atleast know if they are, or are not tree frogs, before telling me I might be doing something wrong.
