Advice on keeping / feeding Ground Snake

srabay Mar 25, 2007 11:56 PM

My family and I went on a collecting trip to Sedona Arizona. We found a couple of beautfiful Ground Snakes and also a couple of Lyre Snakes. I have found plenty of useful information on the Lyre Snakes but not much on the Ground Snakes. I believe the Ground Snakes will be even more difficult to feed than the challenge I expect with the Lyres. Does anyone have any advice on how best to feed these little invert feeders? They are approx. 10 and 12 inches each. I'll post pics in another day or so. Thanks for your help. Steve.

Steve, they often can be maintained on small crickets and some meal worms etc. You might want to opt to take off the large legs so the crickets do not get away so easily. They like a dry cage but do need to drink often so keep a water bowl low and nearby all the time and put a rock in the bowl to keep the cricket from drowning and don't over do it with the crickets or else you will spook the snakes. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. No success as of yet though.

Some of those snakes are off feed for another few weeks perhaps until spring kicks in on them?
