questions about springtails

mmh Mar 26, 2007 02:18 AM

hi. i've had newts for about a year now. They are fed earthworms and fruit flies and more unsuccessfully, pinheads. I'm trying to figure out what other kinds of food would be good for them and me. I'm mostly worried about getting a springtail infestation in either my lizard or my tarantula cages. Has anyone dealt with springtails? can i do things to prevent them from being pests as well as food? What other kinds of things will eastern red spotted newts eat?
thank you.

Dendroboard.com has a lot of posts on springtails, since most dart frogs eat them readily. Go to the forum and hit search, you'll find some good information.

Springtails won't cause an infestation if you have a clean setup. Springtails basically feed on waste. If there's no waste for them to eat, they won't blossom in numbers.
