Howdy Amphibian forum!

I got some tadpoles from my brother's canoe today ... they would have been dumped out had I not.

I have 6 tadpoles and 2 eggs set up, currently in the water I took from the canoe.

I should use spring water when I change the water correct?

Also, I have read about tadpole food, and was wondering if fish food was very similar or if I need to get something else.

My plan is to release after I watch them develop, but I'm not sure about that since they'll be used to people if they make it.

spring water, bottled water, water that is conditioned with fish stuff or just water from where you found them would be fine. as far as food, here's some of the stuff you can feed them: fish flakes, algae wafers (like the kind you buy for plecos and catfish), spirenila (sp?), dead bugs, dead plants, algae, bloodworms, tubifex worms, and pretty much anything you could feed catfish. you could just release them now and they would probally be fine, or do you want to raise them yourself? if so, then i wouldn't be too worried about releasing them afterwards. as long as you don't hold them 24/7 they will be fine. another thing, when you change the water, don't change mroe than half of it at one time, if the water doesn't look cloudy then i wouldnt'change it, i've raised lots of tads and they don't mind water with lots of "gunk" on the bottom, in fact, they seem to like it. make sure to have a piece of driftwood or cork bark when they develop legs so they can get out if they need to. good luck and if you have any more questions you can email me at otis07_@hotmail.com or just reply.

Thanks!

They're being fed fish flakes for the time being. I've changed the water - ( 1/2 of it ) today as it was starting to stink and getting cloudy.

They have a little "bank" they'll be able to get on when they develope legs -

Its been great watching just how much they grow and change in a few days!

Unfortunately --

I went out of town this past weekend and musta put in a few too many algae discs - I came home and all 7 tads had perished

If the tads didn't die in my bros canoe yet, I might start again

make sure to keep the water fresh, that's the leading cause of death in tadpoles. change a bit of it daily.
