egg eater feeding habits

rptlqueen Apr 05, 2007 07:07 AM

I am just wondering if anyone has had success with any one method of feeding these guys. I have one that readily takes finch eggs and she is growing up fast. My other little girl has never taken an egg on her own and I am now tube feeding her. I have tried both finch and different type of lizard eggs (house gecko, anole, and even crested gecko!)with no success. A friend of mine has an egg eater as well and it will only eat on its own once every couple of months. Any egg eater pros out there?

I have some D. scabra, and have worked with D. medici, but I've only been doing this for a few months, and I'm not a pro. Some people have luck with assist-feeding, which is placing a finch egg in the snake's mouth and handling it very gently or putting it down very gently as it swallows it.

Also check out the Yahoo Group on Dasypeltis. Go to Yahoo Groups, and then search for "Egg-Eater" - type exactly that into the search field or it'll be hard to find. There are a few real pros in the group, and all imaginable questions about egg eater care have been covered in past messages.

Good luck,
