When your in really close, how can i get the head of the salamander in focus instead of the body or background? I've got a pretty old Casio digital. QV-3500EX? It's got the little "flower" setting, and the only other thing I know how to do is turn off the flash. It's taken some decent shots, but I was just wondering how to fix this little problem, if I can. Thanks.

If the autofocus is not focusing on the spot you want it to, there are a few options. The easiest will work with any autofocus camera or lens.

Half-press the shutter button to lock the focus.

Move the camera until the desired spot is in focus.

Fully press the shutter button to take the picture.

Take lots of pictures.

otherwise, you might be able to change the size of the focus reticle to center focus, spot focus, or moveable focus. That way you could select a smaller area to focus on, and the background wouldn't compete with the foreground for focus as much. Without any knowledge of the camera I can't say if you can or can't. Manual focus might help too, but most digicam manual focus mechanisms are dodgy at best.

Yeah, it's automatic focusing. The only thing I can think of is that I'm just too close, but, I'll play with it a bit, see how to work it. Thank you.
