What kind of Anolis???

pilonm Apr 08, 2007 08:09 AM

Hello,

Returning from vacations to Margarita Island, Venezuela, I photographied that Anolis...

Is it possible to identify the species, or the genum, or the family???

And here is a link towards the Margarita Island herpetofaun...:

So, I'm hesitating between Norops chrysolepis, Norops onca and Polychrus marmoratus...

Any idea???

Thank you very much for your help!

Hello:
This lizard is an Iguanid lizard from the genus Tropidurus. I don't have a key to this group but it looks like what you have is Tropidurus hispidus. They are related to the "Lava Lizards" of the Galopagos. They are a fairly widespread group of South Amewrican lizards. The pet trade sometimes calls them S.A. Collared Lizards.
Hope this helps. Have a Great Day!!!
