Never mating female spotted

turtle211 Apr 09, 2007 01:38 PM

Hi there,

I'm keeping spotteds fo more than 10 years now and all my females mating and laying eggs every year. Only one female has never mated since I have her. She is laying eggs every year but they are always infertile. I have tried several males but she is never willing. Does anybody now what to do?

Thanks

Frank

have you actually witnessed breeding? if you have and your other gals are viable sounds like she may be infertile. not sure as how to actually diagnose it though.

I have witnessed copulating of my other females. But this female doesn't copulate with any of my males. She does lay eggs every year, so she couldn't be infertile. I don't know why she doen't copulate.

Maybe in the fall when she is cooling down for hibernation you could put her with an agresive breeder male in a tub. Ive seen males really willing to breed this time of year. It would be worth a try if you haven't already. I would guess in 10 years you,ve tried lots of things.

Yes, I've tried a lot of things, but it is a good idea to try it in the fall. Maybe she is too old for mating?1

I'd be interested to hear, too. I have a pair of adult spotters, and the female doesn't want to have anything to do with the male (who is housed completely separately). Being where she's built like a tank compared to him, "No" means "No" and the male couldn't hold onto her to save his life. He seems to get frustrated and starts chomping on her neck--a bad scene all around.

Hi fellows,
you don't believe what's happened. I was just feeding my turtles this evening and tried to put her to a male the last time, cause normally my spotteds mate in March. So I went on cleaning some aquaria and didn't pay attention to the pair, as I suddenly saw them copulating She must have heard my SOS. Unfortunately it was my ugliest male, but it is great anyway
