how venomous is the eastern tiger? also hows the temperment?

BillyBoy Apr 18, 2007 06:44 AM

By all accounts I could scrounge up, the venom is of no consequence to humans. Their temperaments are pretty good and my pair is very handleable. If you disturb them in their cage though, they put on a great show with head flattening, hissing and closed mouth striking. Like many snakes, once they are picked up, they settle right down. In the few months I have had them, I have found them to be great eaters and really easy to keep with no special requirements, kinda like corns or other rats. I'm hoping they breed easily too! I suspect the real challenge with these guys will be getting the hatchlings going. It's too bad they are so rarely available. Hardly ever see ANY Teloscopus species for sale anywhere.

Nice work, I thought those were lizard eaters. Are yours cb? I saw some for sale but they were listed as being nasty, not tame. Good luck with those, it would be nice to see more of them!

I was told they were cb in Africa, so they are definitely imports. My pair have never refused a meal and are chowing on f/t fuzzies and rat pinkies. As far as temperament, the day I got them, the little male was super pissed off and was striking and hissing like you would not believe when I pulled him out of the bag. But ever since then, they have been nothing but docile little angels. I have even used the female in an educational talk to the local Cub Scout pack. Many, many years ago, I had a pair of T. dhara and they were the same way - very easy to care for and not aggressive in the least. I really hope I can get them to breed and produce some little ones!
