Awesome Allan. Is that a big clutch for her? It seems huge for any agalma. She is a screamer, congrats.

AllanBartlett Apr 13, 2007 09:51 AM

Hi Aaron,

It's the biggest clutch I've ever had for an agalma and the probably the biggest zonata clutch on record. The most I had heard of previously was eight or nine eggs. Eleven of twelve appear fertile, but time will tell.

Thanks, good luck on them hatching.

I have a question? Were you able to collect that Zonata agalma you took a picture of in Baja last year and add it to your breeding stock. I really like the dark head on that agalma and new blood is good for our limited breeder bloodlines.

You are not able to collect anything in Mexico for your info Lypho unless you have a scientific collecting permit. I wish the rules were otherwise. The animal was left where it was seen. For your info though they are a pretty common snake down in their habitat. All my breeding stock are captive born. I have been working on a line of light orange agalmas for many years now. The project has been starting to bear fruit over the past few years.

It is unfortunate to hear the laws in Mexico are the same as the U.S. Maybe a herpatologist in Mexico can aquire animals for a breeding project and export them legally to the U.S. This tactic would help deter the illegal trade if the animals are readily availble from breeders. That same policy would also help above the border. The laws really have to be amended.

Hi Allan

Congrats on the agalma clutch. I must say, I haven't seen animals this nice for a while. I commends you for sticking to it and refining the look that you're breeding for. Definitely awesome animals. Email to come. Thanks and take care.
