Breeding Red-Eyed Tree Frogs?

jaflores85 Apr 14, 2007 09:48 PM

When breeding red-eyed tree frogs what should be the ratio from males to females in the terranium? Does having more than one male in the tank cause them to fight? This information would be very helpful. Thank you.

Woo I can answer this one. To be really sucsessful (yeah my spelling is great!) you need a higher ratio of males then females (so like 2.1 or 3.2 and so forth) The males will not fight, with most tree frogs, its the females that are territorial and will get pushier than the males.

Just so you are aware it takes more than having males and females in the same tank. You will need a rain chamber (separate enclosure) to be able to simulate the correct conditions, you need cooling and warming periods in conjunction with slow food periods and then abundance of food.

The ratio thing is correct as well, 3:1 is probably more like it, so a group of 6 with 2 females would work. You would need at least a 40 gal tank, larger is better.

Here is a good link with breeding information.
