Species of horned frogs and Pyxie Frogs

santoury Apr 14, 2007 10:44 PM

OK so I have several frogs...

Is there a sure fire way to distinguish between Pixie and Dwarf Pixies? Also, what's the diff. between the S African, and the Tanz Pixies? How big does each REALLY get?

Also, what is the diff. between cranwelli and ornata? And are any of the other species of Ceratophrys available?
I have two browns (distinctly different), a gree, and an albino. I have no idea which is which. All are babies still.

Thanks!

I can only help you on the pacman frogs. The two brown ones you have are cranwelli, as is the albino. (all albinos are cranwelli). I'm not sure about the green one, because cranwellis they're green as babies and turn brown with age. In my experience Ornata seems to have splashes of red in them. check the Other Frogs photo gallery, go to page 3 and a user has a really good comparison pic.

I'll take a shot at the pyxie question, in my experience the giant pyxies tend to be a really nice green color and the dwarfs are more of a brown, as far as locals go i am sure it is all about colorations
