Lighting Questions

I have a 4 year old female frill, her cage is 4 ft. tall X 2 ft. wide X 2 ft. deep. I have a fluorescent uvb bulb on top. And I'm using a 100w uva blasking lamp for heat. Now I know frilled dragons need uvb, so my question is do I have to change the uva basking lamp to a uvb basking light for her health? Or is the uva basking lamp ok because I have the fluorescent uvb bulb? I hope that wasn't too confusing.

Hello,

I don't think it matters that the heating bulb is UVA, as long as you have the UVB bulb in there you should be fine. Just make sure that her basking spot is hot enough between 90 - 100F, and that the UVB bulb is changed every 6 months so the UVB stays consistant,(or 1 year depending on the brand of bulb).

Hope that helps.

If you have a UV fluorescent then you can use halogen floods for heat. The issues would be the distance that the uv is from the animal (generally). Meaning that some companies have distances that the uv is actually effective. Most likely its fine. but I would buy the best UV tubes you can. In some cages I do this; I use a 100 watt halogen and put it on a dimmer to control the amount of heat coming off it. This allows me to have full control over the ambient temp in the cage. i have also used Helix controls to make sure things are good when I am not there; especially during season changes.
Hope this helps///
