Here's my Toast! Thicker than my biceps!

He's just over 6 months old, believe it or not. I like 'em big...
I will not reduce his feeding until he reaches 12 months of age. I believe the first year is for GROWING.

hello
over feeding can be a negative with tegus
they eat alot already
they basically become fat lap dogs
let them grow at a natural rate is safest on their reproductive organs
hibernation can effect the reds if not done the first two years
i have one that is huge but he is genetically bigger then the others i own
he is fed the same amount as the others
i like to let them get hungry in between feedings
it stimulates them to be active and this gets their systems working
i love watching them come running out to eat in the morning
they are scavengers and are constantly looking for food
my vet has stated that high quality dog food for senior dogs is his recommendation if you are to use dog food
i use tropical fruit mixed with my food for the b&w argentines
and my reds
humidity is key the fruit helps keep them hydrated
along with daily mistings and a soak water dish
i keep mine ouside and have misters and allow them to borrow
no shed problems ever outside
hope this helps

You guys are right. It's been a few years and he has been on a diet and is a healthy weight now. Thankyou for your advice. I just kept reading on caresheets that for the first year you should feed them without limiting their food, which may be somewhat true as a starting point but I should have known when he got fat to stop. Also the whole trying to get him to eat fruit thing made me feed him so much meat to hide fruit inside, when I later found out that if I just let him eat normally he will eventually, with time, take food. I am glad he is healthy and good now and no lasting damage was done.
Sorry, by "take food" I meant "take fruit". Is there any way to edit messages once posted?
