FedEx Gone Bad!

HofR May 07, 2007 04:40 PM

Although we've shipped and received reptiles and amphibians for a long time via FedEx, we were informed today that:

1. Via policy, we needed to sign a waiver and have it on file releasing FedEx from any responsibility for DOA's, and
2. Via policy, they only ship from business to business.

I've had an account with them for a long time and have never run into this. I spoke with two middle managers to try to get an exception just for this shipment and was told that they did not have the authority to do that. When I told them that they ship hundreds of reptiles and amphibians around the country every day, I was told that "we probably ship lots of drugs too, but that doesn't mean its ok."

We've also used Delta Dash for years with relatively little trouble. Guess we'll be looking for another shipper to replace FedEx.

Have you ever tried to get reimbursed for a d.o.a. with FedEx?
I don't think they ever guaranteed live reptiles. I don't know for sure though.
You can ship to/from a FedEx manned facility. That is within their rules. The customer must pick up the pkg. there.
Most times it's less than the $80. for Delta but a big pkg. is better of with Dash for sure.
Good luck on finding another shipper and be sure to fill us in on any headway you make with someone else.
