Eventualy the neons will be eaten.

otis07 May 10, 2007 08:44 PM

neons will die, dont' try it

Why do you say this? Is it because the will be eaten like I saaid or something else. I have allways kept newts with fish of size not big enough to get gulped up I have never had a stressed out newt or a fish die. I have fish in one of my newt tanks that spawn.

The fact that fish and newts cant co exist in a terrarium or palludarium is cynical.

Note: Domestic US bred bettas are not agresive, only when in contact with a fellow male in "small" quarters. Any Betta aquired that is to agressive was most likely imported from a country that uses them as fighters at a low cost for the disstributor.

The reassoning for this is that we in the US and Europe breed Bettas for color and quallity, those bred in Asia are mostly bred for fighting

um, no. newts are almost blind, i can't imagine how they could catch any type of fish. but FBN are toxic so thats kind of a problem. read any care sheet and it will tell you that.

One of the major reasons that you do not want to mix newts with tropical fish is the different temperature requirements. Newts and salamanders in general like much cooler environments than most tropical fish. If you keep the newts at a comfortable temperature (usually under 70 degrees F) then this will be too cool for most tropicals. An exception would be white clouds, which do well at lower temps. Some people have also reported successfully mixing zebra danios and newts as well. Keeping newts at higher temps will only result in prolonged stress and most often death. As already mentioned other variables such as tank size, number of animals, and method of filtration are also important. Go to caudata.org for the best information regarding newt care.

Thia is the guy I agree with, amongs the ones he named there are some guromies as well like my honey dwarfs that constantly spawnand if its big enough, and I mean big enough paradise guromies and weather loaches are good also.

Um no, wrong my newts do well on the occasional feeder fry and such WTH are you talking about blind? They even see me coming from across the room and get ready to feed poor vision maybe so but they can definetly catch fish. It has no affect on the fish "FISH HAVE SLIME COATS FOR REASONS SUCH AS THIS"! I have done this for a long time many times over as well as friends and people that I highly look up to. Besides slime coats you have chemical filtration and water changes, water changes are my secret but I only run natural filtration from a waterfall and alot of drift wood along with terrestrial plants and aquatic ones ( trust me if set up right the terrestrial plants and wood can do alot of nutriant obsorbing and bio filtration) I have not once lost a fish in my palludariums and other type tanks. Sometimes in the one that I refer to mainly I need to remove fish that grow from my spawning fish fry ( not feeder fry) and are good at hideing from the newts. Its almost as if the newts know better and leave them alone they onle seem to go after the feeder fry at this point. ( FYI before I get one for the fry I raise my own and know of the quality they posses)

Care sheets can tell alot of BS to keep amatures in line till they get used to things.

You must be a one of those cynical types.

"FISH HAVE SLIME COATS" if this was so true about newts why is that fish are still found in the same places as newts? They would eventualy be in threat now wouldnt they? Sure but fish have evolved for this kinda stuff, the newts toxicity is the last thing a fish has to worry about seeing that most dangerouse disseas come from the water in general.
