But here goes. while i have owned reptiles for years my turtle experience is limited to only south FL native species.
Well it tunrs out my husband saw a turtle racing... ive never seen it... but he wants turtles, and he only wants the kind that people race??
i dunno i am trying to steer him in the direction of some type of tortoise like a leopard or russian.
Well thats kind of beside the point.. my question is does anyone know what kinds of turtles people use in turtle racing... yeah i know. but i promised i would at least try and find out. i am suspecting its some sort of box turtle.

I have a vacant 200gal aquarium so space is no problem.
any help would be great. if it were up to me i'd just get a leopard tortoise and be done with it haha. THANKS!

beth

In the eastern united states most racers are box turtles, but in the west many are red eared sliders or painted turtles.

and keep in mind that turtle racing is not good for the turtles.. very stressful for them and also a good place to pass on various health problems if one turtle is sick and then comes in contact with others.

yeah were not planning on racing them at all.
i think thats abit silly sounding anyhow. i'm still trying to steer him away from the box turtle idea tho because all the research ive done into the matter leans towards secure outdoor enclosures. and right now we are living near seattle, wa and its NEVER warm here. an indoor enclosure just seems like too much work and not very benificial to any box turtle we would get. he just liked they way they walked i guess. lol
who knows. thanks tho.
