How and what do scarlet snakes eat. I can only get mine to drink some egg mixed with water. Is this good enough to sustain the snake? Any help would be appreciated on this species.
Thank You!

THE EGG MIX IS GOOD BUT IT NEEDS MORE OF A SOLID OBJECT TRY A SMALL ANOLE OR SMALL SKINK

I've tried both already, with no luck with either. I've even tried a egg soaked pinky, with still no luck.

We have successfully kept them on blended chicken eggs injexted into corns snake eggs. Bearded dragon eggs and leopard geckos eggs may also work.

Do you mean they eat the whole corn snake egg when it is injected with chicken egg? If so I don't have any of the types of eggs you mentioned.

No. They drink the mixture thru the slit in the egg. The eggs can be reused. It will be easy to find someone with these eggs to givre/sell soon. It really works.

I use anole eggs. I have had them take beef heart strips scented w/ anole egg. Also pinkies scented this way.
Good luck.

try to collect some skink eggs.reptile eggs of such a small size will only be available for a short time.unless the reptiles in your area have an opportunity to double clutch;scarlet snakes probably are probably pretty inactive most of the year.in my neck of the woods it's a pretty rare critter, steve.

Phil here from pjreptiles2@hotmail.com I keep some scarlet king's and the best food I've found is pink's when thier small and rat pink's when thier about 16 to 22 inches you have to scent with an anol for a while use frozen pinks and put in hot water until thawed then put pink and anol together in a baggy rub pink all over the anol if the snake is hungry it should take the pink. all my scarlet's take pink's Phil.

My scarlet won't eat anoles. I've tried live ones, dead ones, perfect size ones. I don't think the pink scented with anoles will work? My scarlet doesn't seem the least bit interested in the anoles nor any type of prey LOL!

I'm sorry I didn't understand, your scarlet's won't eat anything, I know how frustrating it is when a snake won't eat,one ? how old is your king? I will give you some idea's I tried this one with a young scarlet, you will need a syringe six cc. get a frozen pinkie,if you have a small blender throw it in and get it to a creamy consistency, plus a small enough cathater to fit over the end,cut the thin part off so when you put it down the throat go past the trak and push the pinkie in. You might not have the enclosure WORM ENOUGH,I have a arizona mt. king and the cage diden'thave a hot spot and the snake threw up a mouse, Hope this help's Phil pjreptiles2@hotmail.com

No, it's not a scarlet king snake it's a southern scarlet snake from Florida. Actually florida has both kinds. yes, it is frustrating when a snake won't eat LOL!

hi,
I know absolutely nothing about this particular type of snake, but I have had some trouble feeders, and here are some things to try:

1) wash food off with warm water, and completely dry...you would think a stronger scent would entice more, but my hogg island boa won't touch anything that has not been washed first.

2) take a small plastic bowl and lid (with air holes) and place snake and food in it, and keep them together all night. I think, from experience, the key is to put the bowl back in the cage. I have gotten a couple to eat this way that wouldn't any other way! I think placing the bowl back in the cage allows the snake to think it is at home in it's cage, a place that it feels, or should feel, secure and safe but at the same time, is forced to stay close to food. Some snakes are simply very shy feeders, and it sounds like your species is very secretive anyways.

3) I don't know how often you are trying to feed, but if you are disturbing the snake several times a week, I would stop completely for at least two weeks. Put the snake in a area will it will not be disturbed by people or pets walking around (like a spare bedroom) and leave it completely alone. I have all but two of mine in a second bedroom, where they only get disturbed when I go in to check on them.

I don't know how much experience you have with snakes, so I apologize if I am telling you things that you already know.

below are pics of my two trouble feeders in the past

oops, only sent one pic
that is Inara, she will not eat a mouse to save her life, only rats!

the next is Andromeda, my hogg island boa, who would only eat if the food was washed, and then she was left alone with the food in box
