question about set up for baby snapper

jxjaxj May 30, 2007 11:16 AM

Hi, I wanted to use a smaller rubbermaid bin for my new baby common snapper and I was just kind of confused how I will be able to add a filter. I normally have the regular filters that sit on the top of the aquarium. That I can imagine would not work on a plastic bin. Could you guys give me any ideas? Thanks.

Zoomed 501 filter will work ok for shallow water as will a Tetra Whisper 40I Internal Filter. I have both an recommand the later of the 2.

Hi, thanks for your response. I went to look for the filters that you mentioned but I could only find the Fluval 4 Internal plus filter 260 GPH. Can I use that for a baby turtle set up? I know for like fish, the bigger the filter, the better. Is that the same for turtles or is it not good? Thanks a lot!

shouldn't have any issues finding both as they are veyr common. I buy my stuff from bigalsonline.com. I have one of those fluvals it has a very small area for media and takes up too much room. Mine is used just for water curculation, I'd go with the wisper over a fluval.

You could use and undergravel filter in a 10 gal tank. You can set up the tank with plants, driftwood, etc and you can see him alot better. Another way to keep it even cleaner is to feed him in a separate container.

Yeah, what Rick said. Many people dismiss undergravel filters for use in turtle tanks but I have had great success with them. I think many people tend to over feed their turtles and that's why they are always having problems with filtration.
