Two questions for my american toad

paulgauguin May 31, 2007 01:31 PM

Now that it's summertime how warm should I let my terrarium get for my toad? Right now it's staying in the mid 70s and the humidity is usually around 75%. Also, is it only males that croak? I've had my toad since August and haven't heard a peep yet. Thanks!

what is your toad in now? yes, it is only males that croak, but if your guy ins't at least 6 months old it wouln't call. if it is full grown and you want to know i'de mist him like crazy and feed him a ton and see if he calls. they only call when they're happy.

Alright great, thanks! Also, how warm should my terrarium be kept? It stays in the 70s generally and it's not often that it gets warmer than that.

70's are perfect, i wouldn't go above 84 or below 68, but they're pretty hardy little guys and go though some dramatic temp. changes in the wild. if you are keeping them outside just make sure they are not in direct sunlight, but you don't need a waterheater or anything if you live in a moderate climate. good luck!
