Keep this snake! It would be a great breeder with all that red. I caught a large one a bit redder than that one once, and released it. I still think of that mistake because almost everyone I caught since then has been the normal dark coloration.
Nice nerodia Carl! Hope all is well. I was just poking around and saw this pic. You'd love the nerodia on Beaver Island....lots of red, big and beastly. But, I don't collect a single animal - I'd feel too guilty considering how much territory they cover, their need to forage for sculpin and choosing where they want to hunt, etc. My philosophy has changed quite a bit in recent years of collecting but that is a gorgeous snake you have.
