I will be back!
Last year mine laid in a hollow she made under her hide but she didn't burry them.
This year she burried them - and burried herself with them.

3.6 L. getula californiae - 16 eggs (Cal. King)
1.1 L. getula nigrita (MBK)
1.0 Pantherophis guttatus guttatus (Corn)
0.1 Pituophis catenifer catenifer (Pacific gopher)
3.3 Elgaria multicarinata multicarinata - 14 eggs (Cal. Alligator Lizard)
How long did she bury herself? Mine bury herself for about 2 days before coming back out. She is pretty aggressive now. I wonder if she laid some already.

Carefully sift through the substrate.
Mine stayed burried with the eggs - to guard them.
Next year, I'm going to try giving her a setup that allows her to guard them through hatching, as nature intended. The difficulty is providing humid but not wet substrate.
In fact, after I removed the eggs, she kept burrying herself in the same vicinity as where she layed. So I think it may be better for the mental health of the mother to let her guard until they hatch. I'm just not set up for it.
Sometimes it happens by accident - people don't even know their lizard laid until they see hatchlings running about - so it can't be too difficult.
