Fluval 404 problem

NSPeg Jun 11, 2007 11:37 AM

Hope someone can help. I'm TRYING to clean my RES's tank and filter and I cannot get the 'catch' that holds the hoses on to the lid to let go. It seems to release but will not pop off. I have to get the hoses off before I can PRY the lid off. I am SO SICK of playing tug of war with this thing every week....nothing seems to work smoothly with this %&*%^&* thing!
TIA
Peg

The fluval 501 is even worse. Their filters are not the easiest things in the world to take a part at all in order to service them. My suggestion would be to buy a different brand of filter that is easier to use. The Fluval once you put the top on that's it your screwed and will have to fight forever before getting the darn thing off again! I can't tell you how many times I had to stop myself from smashing it into tiny pieces because that is how mad and frustrated I would get at not being able get the top off.

Thanks Hedder!
At least I know I'm not alone. Hubby came home that day and applied more force than I'm capable of but got it open. I have fantasized about laying it on it's side in the driveway and running it over a few times. Bet ya it'd open then <G>.
