This isn't so much for frogs as it is for my new newts. Since the newts are wild caught (I know, I know) I wasn't really planning on using a filter (they were in a stagnant pool as is) and no stores near seem to have any water plants currently, so I was just going to do weekly water changes. Now, my question is, since tap water has chlorine and other amphibian baddies in it, would I be able to use tap water at all? I had read somewhere that if you let tap water sit out for 24-48 hours, the bad (good for humans) stuff in tap water dissipates and it's okay to use for amphibians (I got this off of dendroboard, and it was directed towards darts.)

Anyone have experience with this?

The chlorine in tap water will dissipate, but if your water system uses chloramines as well, this is more stable, so just ageing the water won't do it. You can treat it with the fish tank stuff--I believe this is called something like "Aqua-safe" to get rid of this.

I don't have any first hand experience with these additives, because my well water is relatively pure, albeit rather hard, but I'm sure some fish folk will chime in with some product names.

I use aqua safe for watering all my herbs. The bottle I bought from walmart was like 3 dollars and treats a couple hundred gallons of tap water. I havent had any problems with my frogs, snakes, geckos, or bearded dragon.

I used distilled water. Its like $.50 a walmart and the best thing is that it doesn't leave hard/impossible to clean mineral deposits on the glass like tap water will.
