Hello all,

I am new to Kingsnake's forums and also I moved to Reno last October. I am interested to know if there are any others from the area who know good places to look for Rubber boas. I am not interested in collecting, but I would like to get out there and locate some for photography. If anyone knows, that would be great.

I have never searchrf for the species in the greater Reno area. However, I have viewed the habitat while passing along highway 395 to an from Oregon. There is suitable boa habitat within a mile west of the southwestern Reno city limits.

Even though such habitat is mainly sage / grassland, the boas are there all the way up into the pine forested regions. I would start looking under rocks at around 5500 ft. and upwards but this is only an educated guess on my part. They may even occur as low as 5000 ft. and in the western city limits for all I know.

However, this time of year is not the best time to make searches.
Night driving back road might increase your chances during the summer months. Daytime search early in the morning before surface temperaturs become too warm could also produce a specimen or two, particularly gravid females or boas digesting meals or preparing to shed.
