Roadkill Diversion - Crotalus Horridus

HappyHillbilly Jun 20, 2007 11:47 PM

Timber rattlers have been pretty scarce in my neck of the woods for several years now. You rarely hear of anyone encountering them and I've never seen a live one in the 13yrs I've been here, only seen 1 roadkill a few years ago.

Early afternoon, the other day, I saw one in the middle of the oncoming lane, just beginning to attempt its trek across the road. One truck straddled it and I got to it before the next car did.

I took a few pics before I released it safely on the other side of the road and thought I'd share them with ya'll.

It was aprox. 3ft long with 9 rattles & a button. Oh, and it had quite an attitude at first, too. LOL! It was obvious that it had never been handled with two hooks before.

Have a good one!
HH

My wife thought she saw the truck's tires run over it but I couldn't find any blood or marks anywhere on it and its ribs all felt good.

This little good deed made me feel good, for sure.

Take care!

Looks like my wild caught from north west Alabama. Love the patterns on him.
