Active horned frog, HELP

replover Jun 23, 2007 11:57 AM

Hi, I have a butterfly horned frog that is very active for some reason. This is a sign of good health, which is good. However, he is constantly banging himself against the plexiglass and for the first time he hurt his nose a few days ago.

It's only a small abrasion, it should be fine. However, I can't stop him from jumping all over the place! At first he was jumping so high he was hitting the ceiling. The aquarium has a lid that has a transparent latch. I covered the latch up with toilet paper and then he started banging against the sides of the aquarium. So I covered basically ALL the transparent parts of the aquarium but I still hear bang bang bang all the time.

Over the past days, I have tried giving him a taller tank so he can't hit the roof, he still jumped at the walls. I have tried feeding him more food but he wouldn't sit still. I gave him a bigger tank as well, and I tried a smaller tank also. Still same thing. I am not new to horned frogs and all my others would just sit there all day all fat and lazy and I don't know what the heck is with this guy. What can I do?

Have you changed his bedding recently?

like the other person asked have you changed the bedding thats a great question as maybe something bothering him/her .

I keep mine in the backyard enclosed patio its in shade but warm(in screen enclosure )most of the year (Miami) and the activity level is way higher than when I kept him inside at same warm temp.

Is yours near a window ,etc as they love the rainy days they are just more "alive" . I dont know if you want some type clear plastic storage box and than you put screen top on that . I mention this because they dont bang themselves up like they will with glass .
