holding a tortoise

is there a way to properly hold a tortoise? I don't want to cause more stress to mine, and I can't figure a way to make my russian tortoise to stop swimming in the air.

i belive the propper method is to support the top and bottom of the shell as for squirming my torts do that to and it can get painful but my tort seems do less squirming and thrashing around when helg properley
