Rosy not eating

metalpest Jun 26, 2007 11:29 PM

We have a potentially gravid rosy who is no longer eating. She is looking very skinny in her neck and tail area. You can feel the bones in her tail. Another female is kept the same way and feeding ravenously. Also, the male had a regurg recently, followed by a second during the next feeing attempt. They are all kept on newspaper in steralite boxes with water offered once a week. Humidity is kept low. Hot spot is 86F. Is there anything we can do to stimulate feeding to the nonfeeder?

Posting a picture would be the only way to say for sure...
Gravid rosies will sometimes refuse to feed while gravid. I have some that feed all the way thru, some that refuse all the way thru and some that are in-between.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just try smaller than normal food items.

She has been completely ignoring all food items. We tried soaking her and she drank and drank, hopefully that will do it. We may just have to soak her periodically if she won't drink from her water bowl.

She didn't eat after soaking still. Soaked her again today and again she drank a lot of water. Here is a shot of her in the water. She is obviously gravid, but appears very skinny throughout the rest of her body.

I don't think you have to worry.
She looks really good.
She'll be skinny after giving birth, but not morbidly so.
I think people get overly used to seeing 'too' plump snakes & not realize they would tend towards being skinnier in the wild.
Show us pics of the young when they arrive!
