Good lookin' atrox....Just be careful with him though...these guys pump ALOT of venom into their bites...ain't pretty if you get tagged...

Enjoy...

Yeah they do, seen some nasty pics. How long of him not taking any food should i start to worry and/or release him back where i found him? I am sure he is pretty stressed out from being caught and switched cages, just don't want to be responsible for this beautiful guy starving to death.

Thanks,
ellioT

I don't know how long you've had him, but if he's a recent capture, I'd recommend giving him at least a week to settle in...Distrub him as little as possible...

Most atrox that I've had will acclimate rather quickly if given a "settling in" period...Ensure the enclosure is clean and that he has fresh water, but don't worry about feeding him for a week or so....

He looks to be a healthy adult, and as such he could go months without eating and be just fine...I've had success in putting in a f/t rodent with an atrox and covering the enclosure with a towel or something to create some darkness...The snake is less stressed this way and is more likely to eat...you might try this the first few times you feed him...Regardless, atrox as a rule are generally pretty good eaters and as long as his environment is set up properly, he'll most likely be fine...

Also, if he's a recent capture you will want to consider de-worming him...Parasites can stress out a wc animal when they are subjected to the turmoil of a newly captive environment...

Good luck!

AzAtrox, thanks a bunch for the tips. I got a really good book on rattlesnakes in captivity but it doesn't cover wild caughts. All my other wild caughts have never had problems feeding so I was just a little concerned about this guy, I'll try covering him up next time in about a week and just let him be for now.

It worked! Covered the front of his cage last night and left him with a mouse near him and it was gone this morning! thanks a bunch,

Glad to hear it worked for you! Atrox are really undemanding captives and he should provide you with years of enjoyment, so long as you always bear in mind his devastating capabilities....

Be safe and enjoy!
