Greeks/Hermanns in New England?

jjenkins Jun 28, 2007 09:00 PM

Would these tortoises do well in a New England climate? I've heard these are arid/semi-arid species, and we have days in the summer up here (Massachusetts) that can be very humid. The weather varies--sometimes drier and cooler, sometimes hot and humid. Can anyone who keep these species in New England give me their input?

Thanks

A LOT of my friends keep russians and greeks in New England. For the humid days, they have a de-humidifier. You could use one of those too. I think it's fine to keep a russian or greek in New England.

I had a "golden greek" here in upstate NY and she did horribly with any humidity, which was a bit of a problem in spring and summer.

My hermanns I currently have has no problems at all. Actually I keep his enclosure a bit humid. He burrows alot, and inside the burrows it is very humid (near 100%), if it is dry in the enclosure he stays in his burrow.
