New Pictures For This Week

Liquid_Metal Jul 03, 2007 07:30 PM

This is my setup to keep them pesky ants and everything else out.

This is what they look like this week:

I am using this water injector to keep the coconut fiber moist. I inject it down into the substrate to prevent any water splattering. Let me know what you think?

That's a great way to keep ants from the tank. Too bad I don't have a table to do that. I have ants coming in and out of my tank. Those are nice pictures of the eggs. I recently found an egg and i wasn't sure how old it was because I haven't been checking. I do know it was wasn't white like yours more like yellow, and wasn't fertilized because i checked under a light.

Jah, that is actually a plastic shelf unit that I bought at Walmart for $9. I just took 2 shelves and put them side by side with DVD Cake Cover on the bottom. Feel it with water and dishwasher soap and there you have it.

I thought of that on my own invention to battle those dam ants! It keeps even the spiders out.

You can also use those foil disposable brownie tins from places like the dollar store. If your table has thin metal legs, you don't want plastic under them as they will eventually crack the plastic.

That is absolutely true and I was thinking about the plastic cracking over-time the other day.

I think for now, it might be safe because those DVD Cake Cover are not expose to the sun.

When I found it, it was yellow. I checked under a light and did not find anything. I saw your eggs and they were white. Im not sure but when it was time to clean my tank I realized it was the only egg. I have four alligator lizards and not sure which one laid it and if it was their first time?

What type are those? Did you get them all at the same time because they are all different size.

No I did not get them all at the same time. I did get them all from my back yard except the smallest one.

Liquid_Metal Jul 04, 2007 03:32 PM

Cool.

What type are they? They don't look like Southern California or at least the sub-species that I have.

Yeah... that's what I'm trying to find out. I have been looking for the type of Alligator Lizard species they fall in. I know at least it's some type of Alligator Lizard.

Just a heads up, once you have the incubation media damp, but not wet and put the lid on, there should be no need to add additional water for the duration of the incubation. The hanging drops on the lid are usually indicative of an over moistened substrate and if these rain down regularly on the eggs, the eggs could drown. I'd recommend at least drying the drops on the lid with a paper towel.

Actually, I did not know that about the lid. I actually damped the lid down before I put the cover back on. But I won't do that anymore. One drop of water landing on the egg can drown them?

Thank You

I don't know that one can.
Drops of water do form on the saran wrap I cover mine with, but they are rather small.
