Would putting fake plants in my turtle's aquarium be OK?

I wouldnt but I noticed some use them. I say I wouldnt because I had fake green plants in my map turtles tank when he was a baby and saw him take a few bites thus took them out .
Nothing came of it but why risk it. I must say they do look nice but some turtles will try to bite them esp as small
