Hello everyone, I got up today and went to go clean out my indoor pond setup and feed my turtles and i found one of my RES on the basking spot with blood all around him and something bloody hanging from his tail. First thing i did was seprate him from the rest of the turtles and tried to rinse him with some clean water. He(i believe it is a male) is around 6 inches shell length and it kinda looks like the bloody part hanging out could be his penis. I was thinking maybe one of the other turtles tried to bite it while he was trying to mate with another turtle but i think all the other RES are males as well. The other thing i was maybe thinking was it could be a female turtle and it tried to lay eggs and could have damaged something and then eggs were not fully produced and its an egg sack. Im not sure what to do and i dont know where these is a vet that works on turtles around here. Please let me know what you think could be going on and give me suggestions.

Thanks,

Mitch

The turtle is doing just fine now. He had a prlapsed penis, it is caused during mating when some sort of tramaua happens to the penis and it does not retact. Sometimes it can just be pushed back in and a few stiches and but in my case it had to be aputated. The vet said it is not to rare and happens every once in a while and as long as you make it to the vets in time usually all is alright.

ouch, poor little guy! I'm glad he is doing okay now. No more mating for him though! Did you say you think you have all male turtles? If so how did it happen? One of them must be female right? I have a 0.0.2 ybs but I'm pretty sure ones male and ones female. I've seen them do the whole courtship dance thing so Im gonna have to set up a nesting area asap. If I dont my girl is gonna have troubles simular to your turtle's!
