Sulcata with ticks

holy7cow Jul 11, 2007 09:10 PM

Hi,
I keep my Sulcatas outside and today noticed some ticks on one individual. These ticks were not there a month ago. Anyway I removed most of them but there is one far back behind his rear leg. I can't reach in with tweezers far enough. Is there something I can rub on the tick with a Q-tip or something to get it to drop off?
Thanks,
--Jeff

A rag and some Dawn dish soap removes them from humans, gets them right off without a problem. I don't know if it would hurt the Sulcata by using it on him, but if not it's worth a shot. Just put it on a cotton ball and hold it against the tick and it should come off when you pull it away.

if you can cover the tick in vasoline it will likely suffocate. You will have to get enough on the tick to be successful. Best of luck.

you could try getting a pair of hemostats . . . I have a pair I use for feeding snakes that are 18" long . . . the soap works well too
