Wow, those are both beautiful red-eared sliders. I think the second one is a Rio Grande Slider. Very nice looking turtles.

animal shelter and other bay area shelters.

We get them in, keep them in tubs, and place them into homes with established outdoor ponds for a fee of $5 a turtle.

Where did all of these come from? That particular map is a bit uncommon, and the sliders are beautiful.

Dude, take a deep breath and a step back. I KNOW there is not a map turtle IN THIS POST, but if you'll look in this forum, Stenodactylus has posted several turtles in the last month or so, including a very nice map turtle. I was wondering the source for all of these well-cared for and beautiful turtles.

Since you seem to be an expert on the subject, can you tell me the difference between a Rio Grande slider and a "generic" red-eared slider?

Rio Grande Slider[Trachemys gaigeae] doesn't even resemble a red ear. Google the scientific names and you should find pics. TC

Ah, we are talking about two different turtles - what dealers call a "Rio Grande" slider which is just a variation of a red-eared slider and the "Big Bend" Slider which is a different species, Trachemys gaigeae, as you mentioned.

are collaqualisms and I thought you were talking about the turtle commenly found in the Rio Grande. They are very abundant around the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, Tx.TC
