Martir male close-up

JKruse Jul 19, 2007 03:15 PM

this is the sire to the clutch that is expected to pip at the end of July. It's difficult to pick up his true bubblegum'ish pink in photos, as he does display a reduction in what would be typical red/orange pigmentation (although not as dramatic as in the female). Looking forward to posting pics of the babies...

Nice. I have a male very similar. You're right about the pinkish tone. It almost never comes through on film/digital.
Let us know when they hatch!

as this stock has been bred by others at one time or another and subsequently crossed with Northern-range animals. There are some variations of hypo-erythristic animals out there, and one of your photos suggest something that could be a candidate for such a genetic anomaly (the pic of the one with severe black cross-overs yet sustains that orange-pink color tone). Nevertheless, there is something unusual about this line of Martirs and time will prove to be the best judge of my suspicions. Can you send me another pic of that male, and, are yours primarily Northern range agalma?

I'll try and get a better photo.
I have no idea where he's from. A guy gave him and some others to me a few years back.
Please let me know if/when you produce any.
Another friend has an anerythristic (female I think)
but hasn't had any luck breeding...
I should try and get it, huh?

in a week or so. I had a clutch of nine eggs back at the end of May, so I'm anticipating some pipping to occur soon. Don't know if I am selling any just yet, as I'd like to see what comes out first and then judge as to what I'm doing with them. And YES, definitely work to get that anery female! I presume there are a few of those floating around somewhere too as well as hets. FYI, there are also anery pyro pyro out there too. I snapped a photo of one back in '93 at a Pennsylvania herp show and it is listed in Terry Dunham's site along with the rest of his photo album. The guy with the snake mysteriously disappeared after almost landing a deal with Brian Barczyk.
I heard from a friend of mine who is reputable out here in NY that he personally witnessed an anery pyro pyro being shown off by some youngster this year at a herp show (I forget if it was in Long Island or Pa.) who, by show's end, disappeared. So they are definitely out there somewhere too. I'll be posting the hatch and offspring when the time comes.

That looks like the crosses I used to make in the early 90's using the only Martir I had at the time crossed with Juarez stuff. I stop doing those mixes in 94 and wish I had not done it all. No need to for me to cross now as I have several pure Martir stock. I wonder if that snake in your pic is one of the outcomes. Looks nothing like a pure Martir. That's a classic Juarez head pattern and triad style. Has some of the Martir pinkish hue though and only a handfull have that. Nice snake though.

Hi Paul,

would you happen to have any photos of your Martirs? I'm curious to see as the trace I've done on my animals, as far back as I can go anyways, states that they are pure Martirs. BUT, I'm certainly not ruling out that there may be an integration somewhere along the line. That is always possible as the pink on them is awesome and can only really be appreciated with the naked eye. The female, on the other hand, I believe to be more of a genetic cause and over time will be indicated or ruled out. But do show some photos, please!
