Red EYed Tree Frog DIET

hiphopisdead167 Jul 23, 2007 12:11 AM

i got this terrarium from Exo-Terra that i put my frogs in. its got cabinet like doors n its tall. im having trouble feeding my tree frogs cuz if i use crickets, they eat away at the styrofoam rock back ground and climb behind it and its difficult for the frogs to feed on them. i heard from somewhere that they can also eat wax worms but the woman at the pet store said crickets were better. i need to know if its possible to get them on a wax worm diet instead of crickets and if yes, how would go about getting them to eat them instead of crickets?????????? hELP!!!!!!

Well they need the crickets so you'll have to deal with the tank.

First block all the areas where they are getting behind the wall, I know that's a pain as they like to then hide from the frogs defeating the purpose LOL! Maybe you can stuff so cocoa bedding in the areas. Or you can use some great stuff or silicone but then you have to remove the frogs from the tank for a while while it dries and airs out.

Then I'd just do a routine as the frogs will get used to it and be waiting for the crickets therefore eating them quicker. I find that turning the lights out, then misting and then like 20 min later putting the crickets in works. Now they sit and wait for them.

Then for the couple that are "strays", I'd put in some food for them, fish flakes, an apple slice or something will work, put it in the open as that will also attract the frogs to them.

Sorry didn't see that you posted back to this one.

Just make sure that the silicone (door and window) doesn't have a mold inhibitor in it. You have to let it air out for several days. You can also while it's wet press expanded but dry bed-a-beast or eco earth to hide the damage.

I think the best way is just to make sure there is always food in there for the crickets, that you don't put too many in, and that you do it on a schedule so that the frogs are waiting to eat them; that way you will have less crickets running around uneaten.
