Looks like you might have an eastern Coachwhip! Send us a full body shot and chin.

Hey Bill ..that would make my year!!!..but I'm fairly sure hes a northern black racer.I'll get some better photo's soon. These are just a few that I took myself while holding him and protecting myself from his bite... all at the same time!!!..LOL!!

Kind Regards Paul

....If it has a black head that turns into a brown/red body, you have a coachwhip.

If it's all black and has a white chin, it is most likely a northern black racer(or southern...they both look alike).

Just get a shot of his whole body while he's sitting in his cage. Your fingers will thank you!

Coachwhips are an extremely variable snake and can be all black.
and by the skelatal structure of the head it looks like a coachy to me

When someone see's this they'll be able to tell you for sure. I'm not an expert by no means I'm just going on what "I" think.
Personaly I would be more stoked on an all black coachy more than a black racer!

Cheers,
Nate

The first picture clearly shows a frontal scale as wide as the supraoculars, rather than being distinctly narrower ("bell-shaped". The second one, as far as can be seen, shows seven upper labials. Both features belong to Coluber constrictor.

All the best to every racer/coachwhip lover,

Benjamin
