Question about American Toads

Booja Jul 26, 2007 07:06 PM

I got 3 american toads, what do they eat and how do I feed them? For now until I can get a glass aquarium I have them in a wire cage that is 18 inches square around and 2 feet high, I have grass for them to burrow into and a makeshift pond for them, do I put the food in the grass or in the pond or just hold it up for them to take?

yah well you definatley should get an aquarium at least 15 gallons but the bigger the better you should feed them crickets which you should place on the grass but i recomend putting in some substrate.

um, i'm guessing they will get out of a wire cage. put the food in the grass. AT are not good swimmers at all, and can easily drown in water that isn't even over their head, esp. babies.

The spaces between the bars of the cage are only wide enough to put my pinky through if I turn it sideways maybe a bit over 1/4th inch and are up and down not across, the toads are to big to get through, unless they figure out how to turn themselves sideways and slide out, the water in the "pond" is deep enough for them to swim but shallow enough that their heads are above the water even if they sit on the bottom, I also have rocks piled up on one side for them to crawl up and sit on, I would post a photo but my camera is not working.
